Meet Rising Star and Paragon Certified Groom Tech Taryn Hendricks of Petsense in Durant, Oklahoma! Taryn brings so much enthusiasm with her into the program and it shows – both in her desire to learn and the quality of the work she turns in. We can’t wait to see where this journey takes her!
Her mentor Suesan Watson adds, “Taryn worked hard on keeping herself on time even though she was a part-time student, she even completed a few weeks earlier than scheduled. She worked hard on her skills so that she was learning the skill to produce quality submissions. Taryn will do well as she continues on her journey to become the best groomer she can be. Well done!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
Before choosing to become a groomer, I was a manager at a Walmart Supercenter. I was overworked, stressed, and chronically ill all the time. I started looking for other opportunities and saw the Groom Tech job opening and applied right away! I have always wanted to work with animals as a vet tech but could never make it happen. It’s been one of the best decisions of my adult life and I can see myself retiring from a grooming career thanks to Petsense and Paragon.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really liked the hands-on practice!

Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Practice, practice, practice! No two dogs are the same, you can never practice a skill too much.
